How to improve your networking skills

Networking: a word that sparks fears and discomfort among lots of students and young professionals. Everybody talks about it, you know you should do it – and be good at it – but it’s one of those things that are much easier said than done. As daunting as it can be at the start – especially for introverts – we promise it gets better with practice and with some useful tips. We rounded up a few pieces of advice that will make your networking more efficient and less of an arduous task.

Have a clear goal

Before reaching out to people, reflect on what you want to achieve by doing so. Think about how the particular person you’re messaging can help you. Do you want an opinion on your CV, a referral, an introduction to someone in their network? There can be many reasons why you’re getting in contact, but having it clear in your mind will help you be straightforward on your asking and increase your chances of getting what you need.
