It’s time to get to know the faces behind New Talent Fashion – a family of passionate and positive people, here to recognise, empower and showcase new talent.
This time, we spoke to Lucy Strother, PR Intern here at NTF.
What does an average day working at NTF look like for you?
My days at NTF are occupied with everything ranging from relationship building to team meetings. Along with assisting in social media and brand image, a large part of my day-to-day responsibilities are centred around Northern Fashion Week. As we approach closer to July, my main focus is to ensure that Northern Fashion Week reaches its internal goals, all while building relationships to connect with for future opportunities. We wouldn’t be New Talent Fashion without our amazing team and therefore, teamwork is essential in its success. My role is not just to finish tasks and attend meetings but to be a team player and offer a helping hand where I am needed.
Tell us about your first job in the fashion industry…
Funnily enough, this internship is kickstarting my experience in the fashion industry. Being a student at university, I participate in the fashion market regularly. However, New Talent Fashion has allowed me to immerse myself in the industry. Since I have taken this role, I have learned the ins and outs of the UK fashion industry and how it has defined different areas of our lives. The fashion industry has a lot of extra layers, and though I am still working through those layers, New Talent Fashion gives me that space to learn and expand which I am grateful for.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I find my inspiration through my team. I came into this internship with virtually no fashion industry experience, so I had a lot of catch up to do. However, the amazing team at NTF has made my transition and experience so easy and comfortable. They inspire me to perform to the best of my ability, and of course, have inspired me to use fashion as a form of self-expression.
What do you love most about our memberships?
The memberships at NTF are not just a resource for creators, it’s a community. Our memberships are designed to connect, inspire, and educate – qualities that inhibit self-growth and well-being. NTF has hit the nail on the head regarding a unique experience for its members- an accessible service to help pave one’s growth in the fashion industry. In offering this service, they have also made sure to highlight the importance of well-being, mental health, and sustainability, which has attracted people with different interests and backgrounds.
What are you looking forward to, for NTF?
Northern Fashion Week – of course! This event revolutionises the meaning of Northern Fashion. NTF’s effort to bring awareness to northern fashion is not only eye-opening but very much needed. Northern Fashion Week will not only showcase amazing talent, but it also offers education, networking, and awards opportunities. I am so excited to see how we can not only appreciate northern fashion but put it in the spotlight which it deserves.
Do you have any advice for our community looking for a role in the industry?
Take that aspiration and run with it. The fashion industry can be a narrow path, but it also provides the largest networking system on the globe. There are entry opportunities everywhere if you know where to look. The industry is innovative, constantly changing, and rapid. Ask yourself, “what can the industry do for me and what does it need?”. If you have that answer, more than likely, someone is looking for it.
