It’s time to get to know the faces behind New Talent Fashion – a family of passionate and positive people, here to recognise, empower and showcase new talent.
This time, we spoke to Alexandra, Events Intern here at NTF.
What does an average day working at NTF look like for you?
An average day starts by greeting my co-workers then getting to work as an Events Intern. I research and reach out to potential guest speakers for Northern Fashion Week – our event taking place in July 2022 – via email and social media platforms. Some days I have meetings with my co-workers on my progress too.
Tell us about your first job in the fashion industry…
My first job in the fashion industry was working as a Retail Associate back home in New York at a department store. I helped answer customers’ questions about the merchandise and gave them advice on which outfit looks best.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I find my inspiration from my mother. As an immigrant moving to New York City, in 1999 with limited English, she adapted to a new culture and did everything she could to provide for my brother and me. Even when times got tough she never gave up. She inspired me to complete my last year of University in a new country – England.
What do you love most about our memberships?
I love our work with education – giving fashion students the tools and knowledge to become successful in the fashion industry. By hosting guest lecturers and partnering with different institutions that provide fashion/events courses, it gives students the confidence to succeed in their fashion careers.
What are you looking forward to this year, for NTF?
I am looking forward to meeting new people, people I probably would not have come across, in the fashion industry. I think networking and expanding my circle of career industries would be beneficial for my future endeavours.
Do you have any advice for our community looking for a role in the industry?
I would say to be confident in the skills and knowledge that you already have. Even if this industry may be new to you, a lot of your skills can be transferable. Coming in with a positive mindset that your contributions can be meaningful is a great place to start because it gives you the motivation that you can succeed.
