World Environment Day is a global initiative by the United Nations aiming to engage governments, business, and citizens in tackling environmental issues. It happens every 5th of June since 1974, with each year hosted by a different country in which official celebrations take place – this year’s host being Pakistan. The theme is also unique for each country, and Pakistan talks about Ecosystem Restoration – celebrating a new Marine Protected Area and the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project, set out to plant ten billion trees by 2023.
As it’s a huge event all around the world, it’s also a moment for us to celebrate and do our part in protecting the environment. Here are some ideas to get you started – we hope you enjoy them!
Watch the virtual events
Lots of events will be broadcasted on the World Environment Day official page, with inspiring messages from activists, celebrities, and musicians, as well as talks featuring politicians and world leaders. It poses a great opportunity to get up-to-date with the latest initiatives countries are taking to address climate issues.
Connect with nature
Make the most of the great weather and spend time connecting with the outdoors, wherever you feel you can enjoy nature at its best and appreciate your surroundings. Spending time outside and away from the digital stresses of everyday life has copious benefits on wellbeing – an important topic here at New Talent Fashion, and one that’s significant in both subscription areas, but in our Wellness Centre over on NTF Exclusive in particular.
Choose organic and eco-friendly products
Go green whenever possible. Be it at the supermarket, at the beauty counter or when shopping online. You can find organic and sustainable options of most household and daily items, as eco-aims are valued highly in brands missions and innovations as of late. Make wiser choices that will not only benefit your health and also the environment.
Be a volunteer
There are plenty of environmental charities and organisations that need an extra pair of hands on the key topics relating to environmental practices, from beach cleaning, planting trees, wildlife conservation, and reworking garments. Find something that resonates with you, and be part of the change – it doesn’t matter how big or small, every action matters.
We hope these ideas help you find the best way to celebrate World Environment Day and inspire you to get hands-on when it comes to becoming more sustainable and conscious. We all have our role, and together we can create positive change, in the fashion industry and the wider environmental space.
